Masaru Suyama is a self-taught painter based in Japan, he started his career in the arts after graduating. Masaru initially had his sights set on cartooning, applying to numerous cartooning prizes and was selected as a GARO prize finalist by the prestigious GARO cartooning magazine.
Cartooning was his first experience in art making, twenty years on Masaru is now a skilled mixed media painter, with his roots and humour still brushing the base of his earlier passion for cartooning.
Masaru has exhibited in Tokyo, New York, London and is currently busy preparing for two upcoming exhibitions at the National Art Centre Tokyo and Gallery Art Point, Tokyo.
